When to go?

The Easter period is traditionally the time when South Africans go on a mountain holiday. The three long weekends that one normally has during the March to May period are therefore high season time. So also the period from Christmas to just after New Year. The kids normally love high season when there are plenty of friends to play with. On Driehoek we try to have the facilities not too overcrowded, even during high season time.

Winters in the Cederberg are quite severe so the winter period of say mid May to end of August is normally not ideal for camping. Staying in one of the chalets with a fire place is a far better idea during winter. Visitors should always enquire about the weather beforehand but the full period from September to mid May is normally ideal for camping. Even mid summer is not too hot.

For those who prefer to come during a quiet period a good idea is during the week outside the school holidays. The period just before or after long weekends or school holidays are also normally quiet, say the second half of January or the whole of November.
